Pelican Power Up - Instructors
Pelican Power Up 2016 sees some of Western Australia's top dinghy sailing instructors at SoPYC. Over the three days of training crews will learn how to sail their boats faster and more competitively to give them that extra edge through the sailing season. Our instruction staff include:
Tessa Parkinson
Tessa is probably best known for winning Olympic Gold in the 470 class at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Tessa began sailing in Mirrors at FSC aged 7. She has spent most of her career racing 420s, 470s & 49er FXs, and has been coaching for more than 10 years.
Tessa also coached the Australian Team to win two events at the 2011 Youth World Championships and now trains sailors at all levels from juniors in ‘Tackers’ through to keelboat & skiff teams.
Alex Landwehr
Alex started sailing Cats on the South Perth foreshore at an early age, before graduating to skiffs and sailing with Matt Jerwood on 49ers.
Most recently Alex has been sailing as tactician with Redline Racing, with the team finishing third overall in the finals of the World Match Racing Tour in Sweden.
Alex is a highly experienced coach, training all levels of sailors from our juniors in ‘Tackers’ through to keelboat and multi-hull crews.
Chelsea Hall
Chelsea started sailing Minnows aged 6 at TCYC. She progressed into Flying Ants before moving into 420s & 29ers also taking part in JESS (Junior Exchange Sailing Scheme).
Chelsea has campaigned for the Olympics in both the 470 & 49er FX, winning the Australian 49er FX Championship with skipper Tessa Parkinson in 2013. Chelsea also completed the Sydney to Hobart in 2014.
Chelsea has been coaching various crewed dinghy classes since 2010.
